Winner of the Greplin Design Challenge

Rethinking the encyclopedia

Greplin, now Cue, held a Wikipedia redesign challenge which was judged by Daniel Burka, Google's lead search designer - Jon Wiley, and Kevin Rose, just to name a few. The challenge was to design a concept to change the common behaviour of using Google as a way to search Wikipedia, and convert the traffic to be more direct.

Introducing Wikimarks

Wikimarks would be a way to highlight and store tidbits of information, which can then be organized and shared via email or twitter. Since the user would build a foundation of information on the website, they would be more likely to start or continue their search on Wikipedia, rather than in an empty Google search bar.
